BENGALURU/MYSURU:
Renowned Cardiologist and Jayadeva Hospital Director DR C N Manjunath has been selected to inaugurate the world famous ‘Dasara Festival’ on Oct 17 at the top of Chamundi Hills in Mysuru.
The Karnataka government announced his selection, here on Saturday.
Disclosing this to newsmen here, Mysuru District in-charge Minister S T Somashekar said that the name of Dr Manjunath was selected as per the direction by the State Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
He said that to mark the occasion, the State government has decided to honour Pourakarmika Ms Maragamma, corona warriors Dr Naven Kumar, Staff Nurse Rukmini, Asha worker Noor Johan, Police Constable P Kumar and Social Worker Ayub Khan.
He said there was no confusion on the illumination which will be held as it was in the earlier years, but it was reduced to 50 km radius from 100 km every year.
The final day procession was limited only to the Palace premises only and it will be flagged off by Chief Minister Yediyurappa on October 26.
Due to Covid-19, except cultural programmes in the Palace, no other events will be held this year, he added. (Agency)
