Maheshwar Rao Urges Bengaluru Voters Missing From Draft Roll to Submit Form 6
Bengaluru: Eligible voters whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll should submit Form 6 for inclusion, Bengaluru Urban District Election Officer and Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has said.
Addressing representatives of recognised political parties at the GBA headquarters during a review of claims and objections under the 2026 electoral roll revision, Rao clarified that voters who had mistakenly submitted Form 8 despite being absent from the draft roll should apply through Form 6.
Those whose names already appear in the draft roll but require corrections to their name, address or other particulars should submit Form 8, he said.
Notice delivery and hearings reviewed
A separate official press note dated September 24 records 24,07,218 notices generated, 2,56,935 notices pending delivery and 13,40,663 hearings held. The pending-delivery figure refers to notices, rather than the total number of hearings awaiting completion.
Rao directed booth-level officers (BLOs) and the relevant election registration authorities to check pending cases individually and establish their actual status. Cases awaiting a first hearing, rescheduled hearings, minor document deficiencies and cases still marked pending despite adequate documents were to be examined separately.
Officials were told to correct calculation errors in pendency reports, including discrepancies noticed in Mahadevapura and some other Assembly constituencies, and submit accurate figures.
Doorstep notices and special camps
BLOs have been contacting voters repeatedly in cases where notices have not been received. Where telephone contact is unsuccessful, notices are being delivered through home visits, according to the release.
For voters with available mobile numbers, officials were directed to send SMS or WhatsApp messages asking them to attend hearings or verification at a nearby location. Rao also asked officials to examine the feasibility of including the relevant BLO’s contact number in those messages.
Micro-plans were sought for Yelahanka, Chandrashekharapura and peripheral areas to address staff availability, distances and difficulties in conducting hearings. Areas with a large hearing backlog were to be identified for special camps.
Rao directed officials to complete their review of pending cases that day, establish the actual backlog and hold a detailed review to decide the next course of action.
Final electoral roll scheduled for October 27
The September 24 press note states that the claims and objections period ended on September 23. Disposal of claims and objections is scheduled to conclude by October 22, with the final electoral roll due for publication on October 27. It lists hearings under the notice schedule from September 5 to October 12.
The note records 56,99,660 electors in the draft roll published on August 24. Special Commissioner for Elections Shilpa Nag, city corporation commissioners Pommala Sunil Kumar and K N Ramesh, and election officials attended the meeting with political party representatives.
