MYSURU: Indian Administratve Service officer Rohini Sindhuri is set to face a departmental inquiry over financial irregularities as per an order issued by DPAR undersecretary James Tharakan.
Preliminary inquiry has established that the rules were violated and funds were misused when Rohini Sindhuri was deputy commissioner of Mysuru in 2018-19 for renovation of the official quarters, without prior approval. Following this, the DPAR undersecretary has written to the government asking it to take disciplinary action against Rohini Sindhuri.
Based on the preliminary inquiry report submitted by Dr G Ravishankar, IAS, it was decided to initiate disciplinary action against Sindhuri for alleged irregularities in the procurement of eco-friendly cloth bags and undertaking construction of a swimming pool and installation of vitrified tiles in the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner, which is the heritage building.
The government asked her to submit a written statement in her defence in March. In her statement, Rohini Sindhuri had denied the charges made against her and had requested to exonerate her of all the charges levelled against her.
According to the preliminary report, Sindhuri has signed and issued approval for the supply of cloth bags without the approval of local bodies. The inquiry report also points out that constituting a Heritage Conservation Committee and getting approval for the swimming pool and renovation were not in order and were not required.
Hence, in the view of all these above issues, the government has ordered a departmental inquiry into financial irregularities and procuring sub-standard cloth bags.
