Bengaluru: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has submitted a formal representation to the Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City, seeking denial of permission or cancellation of a proposed stand-up comedy show by Munawar Faruqui, scheduled to be held on April 18, 2026, in the city.

In its representation, the organisation has raised concerns over the comedian’s past controversies, legal proceedings, and allegations linked to his performances. It cited a 2021 case registered in Indore, where an FIR was filed under various sections of the IPC, including charges related to hurting religious sentiments. Faruqui was arrested in the case and remained in judicial custody for over a month before being granted bail by the Supreme Court. The matter is currently pending before the court.

The Samiti further pointed out that similar complaints have surfaced from multiple cities, including Prayagraj and Mumbai, regarding allegedly objectionable content in his performances. It also noted that several of his shows in cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Goa, Raipur, and Gurgaon were either cancelled or denied permission in the past due to anticipated law and order concerns.

Citing these instances, the organisation expressed apprehension that allowing the proposed event in Bengaluru could potentially hurt public sentiments, trigger protests, and disturb communal harmony.

The Samiti has urged the Bengaluru Police to carefully evaluate the situation and take preventive steps, including cancelling the event if required, in order to maintain public peace and order.

The representation, issued by State Spokesperson Mohan Gowda, emphasized that the request has been made solely in the interest of safeguarding law and order and ensuring harmony among all sections of society.
