Former President Castillo Begins Hunger Strike Amid Rebellion Charges

Former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo announced on Monday a hunger strike in opposition to his trial for alleged rebellion. Prosecutors are seeking a 34-year sentence for Castillo, who has been in custody since December 2022.
