The coronavirus claimed the 6th victim in Karnataka, after an 80-year-old woman died early on Thursday at the Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences. She had tested positive 3 days ago.
As per health department officials, she did not have any foreign travel history and neither do officials have any details of any contacts who could be Covid-19 positive.
Gadag deputy commissioner MG Hiremath confirmed the death of the elderly woman, who is listed as patient 166. He said she died around 12.55 am after a cardiac arrest.
According to sources, her neighbours in Ranganwadi Gali in Gadag have been quarantined and are being closely monitored. “Samples of all 42 primary contacts are being collected and secondary contacts are being searched,” said an official.
However, as her Goa-based relatives had attended a family function on March 23, the district administration is in touch with its counterparts in Goa.
With the latest death, Karnataka has registered 6 coronavirus casualties, while 181 infected are being treated in various hospitals.
