BENGALURU:

The Bengaluru city cops are scrupulously implementing the lockdown in the interest of public health and safety.

However, on Wednesday they showed their softer side by cleaning up and feeding a mentally challenged man on the road.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police on duty found Mohammed Saleem, aged around 45 years, sitting near an under-construction building on Mysuru Road. Suspecting he was starving, their first thought was to offer him food.

However, when they came closer, they found he was bedraggled and foul-smelling. The Good Samaritans in uniform then arranged for a bath, a haircut and new clothes for him. They also offered him food and tried searching for any kin.

In a tweet, the Bytarayanapura traffic police said: “Our staff, Santosh, Sharanappa, Mahesh, Yatesh, Ningya, Ramesh and friends of our Bytarayanapura station today on Mysuru Road amid Covid-19 breakdown witnessed Mohammed Saleem walking around without food. So we helped him (all we could)…”
