Bengaluru: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officers seized 5.166 kg of amphetamine from a passenger who arrived at Kempegowda International Airport from Delhi on October 14, 2026, and arrested the passenger, according to the Ministry of Finance.
The Bengaluru interception was one of three intelligence-led operations that together yielded around 7.1 kg of amphetamine and 3.1 kg of cocaine, with three people arrested. The other seizures took place near Nagpur and at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
Backpack lining concealed another packet near Nagpur
Two days after the Bengaluru operation, DRI intercepted an Indian national travelling by bus from Delhi to Hyderabad near Khapa Phata, Saoner, on Nagpur’s outskirts. Officers found a white crystalline substance concealed inside a new women’s suit in his backpack.
The unusually heavy backpack prompted a further examination of its inner lining, where another packet of a similar substance was found. Field tests were positive for amphetamine. Officers recovered 1.97 kg in total and arrested the passenger.
Ghana arrival intercepted at Delhi airport
In a separate operation on October 15–16, DRI intercepted an Indian passenger arriving from Ghana at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport. A baggage examination yielded six transparent packets of white powder weighing 3.134 kg.
Field tests were positive for cocaine, the ministry said. The substance was seized and the passenger arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The Bengaluru and Nagpur seizures and arrests were also made under the NDPS Act.
