Decision on Deve Gowda’s Rajya Sabha Re-Election Will Be Taken by BJP Leadership: H.D. Kumaraswamy
Bengaluru, May 24, 2026: Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday said neither he nor former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has requested the BJP leadership for a Rajya Sabha re-election ticket for Deve Gowda.
Responding to questions regarding the possibility of H.D. Deve Gowda being re-elected to the Rajya Sabha, Kumaraswamy said the matter would be decided by the BJP leadership and alliance partners at the national level.
“We have not asked anyone to re-elect us to the Rajya Sabha. Our alliance partner BJP has 63 seats in the Assembly, so the decision naturally rests with them,” Kumaraswamy said.
He clarified that neither he nor Deve Gowda had initiated any discussions regarding the Rajya Sabha candidature.
“We have neither raised the issue nor gone for any discussion on the matter. Let the leadership in Delhi decide whether there is a necessity for Deve Gowda ji in the Rajya Sabha,” he said.
Kumaraswamy further stated that the JD(S) would not seek a Rajya Sabha berth at the cost of another alliance partner.
“We will never ask them to deny someone else and give the seat to us,” he added.
