Additional Chief Secretary Ramana Reddy directs power company to upgrade service to 60 lines
The city’s power supplier Bescom fears its helpline 1912 may collapse under the weight of calls after BBMP requisitioned the helpline number to attend to Covid-related queries from citizens.
On April 15, BBMP had announced that it would utilise Bescom’s 30-line 1912 facility to respond to Covid-19 queries. Since the last one week, the helpline has received more than 5,000 calls, and on Tuesday alone there were 1,000 calls. Bescom fears the system may collapse under the weight of the calls which are increasing daily.
Following Bescom’s plea to the CMO on the issue, Additional Chief Secretary ES Ramana Reddy has directed the power company to upgrade the control room to a 60-line facility to work round the clock.
A top official told TheBengaluruLive that the meeting with ACS Ramana Reddy was successful and “we have been directed to increase the number of lines to 60, exclusively to be used by BBMP.”
