Corona rampage: 1,502 new cases in Karnataka, 889 in Bengaluru alone

State capital’s death tally now 100

BENGALURU:

With 19 Covid deaths from reported in the state on Thursday, including 3 in Bengaluru, the death count in Karnataka is now 272, of which 100 alone are in the state capital.

According to the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ballari topped the day’s casualties with 4 deaths, all of them men aged 43, 47, 75 and 55 years.

Of the 3 deaths in Bengaluru, a 66-year-old woman with a history of travel from Chikkaballapur had symptoms of fever and breathlessness, coupled with oropharyngeal carcinoma. She was admitted at a designated hospital on June 20 and died on July 2.

The second casualty was a 79-year-old man with SARI, who was hospitalised on June 22 and died on June 30 while. The third was a 61-year-old man who also had symptoms of fever and breathlessness.

Like Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada also reported 3 deaths — a 68-year-old female, a 76-year-old male and a 48- year-old male. All of them had symptoms of breathlessness.

This apart, Gadag, Udupi, Koppal, Mysuru, Hassan, Tumakuru, Kalaburagi, Belagavi and Uttar Kannada districts reported one death each.

The dreaded Thursday also reported the highest single day tally in the state of 1,502 positive cases, of which Bengaluru had 889 cases. Karnataka now has 18,016 infected people out of which 8,334 have been discharged and 9,406 are active cases. Around 161 patients are in ICUs.
