CM D.K. Shivakumar directs officials to find space for Ankegowda’s 20-lakh-book collection
BENGALURU: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has directed Additional Chief Secretary Tushar Giri Nath to identify suitable land and arrange a well-equipped building for Padma Shri awardee and bibliophile M. Ankegowda’s collection of more than 20 lakh books.
Ankegowda met the Chief Minister at Vidhana Soudha on Monday and sought government support to house the vast collection. Shivakumar felicitated him during the meeting.
Ankegowda has assembled the collection through the Ankegowda Jnana Pratishthana at Pandavapura in Mandya district. He told the Chief Minister that it was among the country’s largest personal libraries and could become a major learning centre for children if provided with a suitable building.
He also showed the Chief Minister rare coins and postage stamps from his collection and explained their significance. Shivakumar examined the items with interest.
Legislative Council member Dinesh Gooligowda was present.
