Widespread crop damage in Raichur
BENGALURU:
Following heavy rains, the Charmadi Ghat has been completely shut till August 11.
In Raichur district, 1.82 lakh cusecs of water have been released from the Narayanpur reservoir into the Krishna, flooding paddy fields, banana plantations and nut plantations.
Chikkamagalur Deputy Commissioner Bagadi Gautam has banned vehicular movement in Charmadi Ghat with effect from 7 pm of Friday. The decision was taken in the backdrop of landslides reported at many locations.
Tree falls and road cavings-in have been reported at many locations, and emergency road restoration work is going on. The administration has appealed to people heading towards Dakshina Kannada to use the Shiradi Ghat route.
Charmadi ghat is closed from 07-08-2020 till 11-08-2012 up to12 pm Tuesday midnight.
