Date:

Nominations open on Oct 9, results out on Nov 10

BENGALURU:

The Central Election Commission on Tuesday announced the by-election dates for the Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Sira assembly constituencies in Karnataka.

Nominations for both seats will be accepted from October 9.  October 16 is the last day to file nominations,  October 17 is the last day for verifying nomination papers, and October 19 is the last day for withdrawing nominations.

RR Nagar elections

The CEC has declared the dates for a  total of 56 assembly by-elections across the country. Voting will be held on November 3 and the results will be out on November 10.

‘Death and dispute’

The by-election to the Sira assembly constituency was necessitated on account of the death of sitting JDS MLA B Satyanarayana in August.

With respect to the Rajarajeshwari Nagar seat, the High Court had dismissed the petition filed by defeated BJP-backed candidate Muniraju Gowda demanding that the 2018 winner, Munirathna, be disqualified.

The Election Commission had earlier not announced the by-election to Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency as matter was pending before court.
