Cauvery Handicrafts Targets ₹5 Crore Annual Online Sales in Three Years; New E-Commerce Portal Planned for Ganesh Festival
Bengaluru, September 2: The Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (KSHDCL) is giving Cauvery Handicrafts a digital push with a new e-commerce portal aimed at expanding the market for Karnataka’s handicraft products in India and overseas, with plans to launch the platform during the upcoming Ganesh festival.
Through the new digital platform, KSHDCL has set a target of increasing Cauvery Handicrafts’ annual online sales from the current ₹70 lakh to ₹5 crore over the next three years.
The existing e-commerce portal was developed in 2012. The proposed platform is being developed not merely as a redesign of the existing website but as a more customer-friendly and expanded digital marketplace with modern features.
A key feature of the new portal will be a ‘Customize Product’ facility, allowing customers to submit requirements based on their preferences. Customers will be able to specify requirements relating to size, design, colour, material, engraving, personalisation, quantity and packaging.
The customisation facility can also be used for corporate gifting and requirements linked to special events, according to the media release.
The portal will bring a diverse range of Karnataka handicrafts onto a single digital platform, including sandalwood products, rosewood products, Bidri art, Channapatna lacquerware, Kinnal toys, traditional Mysore paintings, Ganjifa art, metal handicrafts and handloom and textile products.
The new platform is intended to serve as a digital extension of the Cauvery Handicrafts Emporium and connect Karnataka’s artisans and their craftsmanship with the modern marketplace.
Rohini Sindhuri, IAS, Secretary to Government, MSME, Mines and Textiles Department, said Karnataka’s handicrafts represent the state’s distinctive heritage and the exceptional skills of its artisans.
She said the objective was to take these products to a wider customer base through the digital marketplace. Besides increasing Cauvery Handicrafts’ online sales to ₹5 crore over three years, the initiative is intended to create new market opportunities for artisans, she said.
KSHDCL Managing Director H.R. Rajappa said the new e-commerce portal was intended to make Cauvery products more accessible and customer-friendly for buyers in India and abroad.
He said the ‘Customize Product’ facility, in particular, would act as a bridge between customers’ requirements and the skills of Karnataka’s artisans.
