Tulu to Become Additional Official Language in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada; Mangaluru Cabinet Clears ₹32,611-Crore Development Push
Bengaluru: The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday, November 5, approved a multi-level vehicle parking facility at the Malpe fishing harbour in Udupi district on a public-private partnership basis, according to the cabinet decision notes.
The facility, announced in the budget, is to be developed on 1,800 square metres on a DBFOT (design, build, finance, operate and transfer) basis, with an investment of Rs 8.43 crore by the concessionaire. The concession period is 31 years, including a one-year pre-construction period. The concessionaire will be selected through competitive bidding on the highest annual concession fee, with a 5 per cent annual cumulative increase allowed.
The notes say more than 7,000 tourists and members of the public visit the Malpe harbour every day, vehicle traffic is highest in the fishing season, and 3,000 registered fishing boats operate there. They say unorganised parking obstructs fish-carrying and light commercial vehicles, and that the facility is meant to ease congestion for fishermen, tourists and the public.
