7 AEEs and 9 AEs of ‘long standing’ moved out, 25 officers reshuffled

BENGALURU:

In a major administrative move, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad has revamped the entire Town Planning Department. As part of the process, which covers the eight zonal offices (which decide on G+3 floor projects) and the BBMP’s head office which looks after North and South Bengaluru (high-rise projects), 25 officers have been reshuffled. Besides, seven long-standing Assistant Executive Engineers and nine long-standing Assistant Engineers have been transferred out of the department.

Significantly, the Commissioner’s move comes soon after Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths trapped and arrested Bommanahalli zone’s Assistant Director-Town Planning SN Devendrappa (working in the rank of AEE) while he was accepting a Rs 20-lakh bribe for issuance of an occupancy certificate.

Shake-up raises eyebrows

As per the Commissioner’s order issued on Wednesday evening, Prasad has mentioned the ‘Ease of doing business’ online method adopted by BBMP to simplify the application process for building plan sanctions and occupancy certificates. But questions are also being raised over his move to reshuffle 25 officers within the Town Planning Department.

Sources said that there is a powerful lobby that ensures that engineers working in the Town Planning Department get plum postings in favoured BBMP zones at the behest of political patrons — which makes it very difficult even for the Commissioner to tackle the situation.

The Assistant Executive Engineers who have been moved out of the Town Planning Department sans postings are: Basavaraj and DK Madhusoodan (both JDTPs, North office), Chandan Kumar (East zone), Arpita (West zone), Guruprasad (RR Nagar zone), Krishnakumar (Bommanahalli zone) and Prakash (Mahadevapura zone).

The Assistant Engineers who have not been given any postings and have been moved out of the Town Planning Department are: Sunitha and Asha (East zone), Ravindranath Dhani and Rupesh K (JDTPs, North), Biresh and Dinesh (Mahadevapura zone), and Balakrishna MD and Subramanya (Yelahanka zone).

These AEEs and AEs have not been given any postings and have been asked to report to BBMP’s Deputy Commissioner (Administration).
