Bengaluru: BJP MLC S. Ravikumar has approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the FIR filed against him for making allegedly objectionable remarks against Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. The petition, seeking urgent hearing, was filed by senior advocate Suyog Herale on behalf of Ravikumar, with the High Court agreeing to take up the matter post 2:30 PM on Friday.
The FIR was registered at the Vidhana Soudha police station after Ravikumar made a series of controversial comments, which included gestures and statements deemed derogatory toward the Chief Secretary. The FIR invokes charges related to objectionable and defamatory language.
Ravikumar had earlier made offensive remarks not only against CS Shalini Rajneesh but also reportedly targeted the Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner with similarly disparaging language. These instances sparked backlash and led to the filing of a formal police complaint.
Following the FIR, Ravikumar has now sought legal relief, contesting the grounds of the case. Visuals emerged on Friday showing Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh arriving at Vidhana Soudha amid rising political tensions.
This development comes in the wake of mounting criticism over Ravikumar’s repeated public outbursts, raising questions over political decorum and the use of unparliamentary language by elected representatives. The High Court’s response to the petition could set a precedent for future cases involving public officials and elected legislators.
