Bengaluru Zoo: Pregnant Zebra Kavya Dies in Fencing Accident

Date:

Bengaluru: It is with deep regret that Bannerghatta Biological Park announces the unfortunate passing of Kavya, a pregnant zebra, on Tuesday.

Kavya, born on April 4, 2022, succumbed to shock and capture myopathy after an accident in the early morning hours. Preliminary investigations suggest she injured herself while crashing into a chain-link fence, potentially triggered by external stress from other male zebras or the intrusion of a wild predator into the zoo premises, an incident currently under investigation.

Kavya was expected to give birth in the coming months. This loss leaves the park with two male and six female zebras. Bannerghatta Biological Park mourns the loss of Kavya.
