Bengaluru South Civic Body Plans Compost Centre at Vittasandra Waste Transfer Station; Survey Ordered for 65 Acres of Government Land
Bengaluru, June 8: Bengaluru South City Corporation Additional Commissioner Dr. Naveen Kumar Raju visited the civic body’s waste transfer station at Vittasandra village in Begur Hobli and directed officials to undertake an immediate survey of the entire government land surrounding the facility.
During the inspection, officials informed the Additional Commissioner that nearly 65 acres of government land are available in the area, of which around four acres have been proposed for the waste transfer station. Dr. Raju instructed officials to immediately begin survey work and demarcate boundaries across the entire government land parcel.
The Additional Commissioner also expressed concern over the illegal dumping of sludge and commercial waste in areas surrounding the waste transfer station. He directed officials to strengthen security arrangements to prevent unauthorized entry into the site and initiate action against individuals or entities found illegally dumping waste in the area.
Officials informed him that the corporation is considering the establishment of a modern composting facility and waste processing plant at the site. The proposed project is expected to require nearly two acres of land, and preliminary planning is already underway.
Dr. Raju directed officials to expedite preparations and take immediate steps towards establishing the compost centre, which is expected to strengthen scientific waste processing and reduce the burden on landfill infrastructure.
The inspection was attended by DGM Tanuja, AGM Neelakanth, AGM Shwetha, Assistant Executive Engineer Veeresh Haladakatti, Begur Division Assistant Revenue Officer Nagabhushan and other officials.
