Bengaluru sees highest single-day spike of 4,991 COVID-19 cases; 25 deaths reported

BENGALURU:

The state capital recorded 4,991 fresh cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, the highest this year, while 25 more fatalities due to the infection took the death toll to 4,718, according to the Karnataka state health department.

The case positivity rate of Karnataka stands at 5.56 per cent amid a massive surge in coronavirus cases in the last few weeks.

The number of cumulative cases on Wednesday in Bengaluru stood at 41,9508, while over 35,789 lakh patients have recovered from the disease. Bengaluru currently has 35,789 active cases.

  • April 6: Bengaluru reported 4,266 cases and 19 deaths
  • April 5: 3,728 cases and 18 deaths
  • April 4: 2,787 and 8 deaths
  • April 3: 3,002 and 6 deaths

The overall daily figure for Karnataka was 6,976, crossing the 6,000-plus mark for the second straight day.

Wedneday also witnessed 25 deaths in Bengaluru Urban while the state saw 35 deaths overall. Of the other fatalities, two are from Kalaburagi and Mysuru and one each from and Ballari, Bidar, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Tumkuru and Vijayapura.

The 6,976 new cases of Covid-19 take the total caseload statewide to 10,33,560 and the death toll to 12,731, the Health Department said.

In the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 4,991, Mysuru 243, Bidar 214, Kalaburagi 205, Tumakuru 204, Dakshina Kannada 112, and Belagavi 101, followed by others.

Out of the 49,254 active cases, 353 are in the ICU. In the last 24 hours.
