Bengaluru: In a striking move, a resident of Bengaluru has filed a legal notice against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), alleging gross negligence and a failure to fulfill its public duty. Dr. Kiran Jeevan is demanding ₹50 lakh in compensation for the physical pain, emotional distress, and financial burden he claims to have endured due to the poor maintenance of public roads.
The notice, prepared by Advocate K.V. Lavin on behalf of Dr. Kiran, highlights his ongoing struggles with neck and back pain, which he attributes to the strain and trauma experienced while navigating the city’s deteriorating roadways. Dr. Kiran, a resident of Richmond Town, asserts that the condition of the roads under BBMP jurisdiction has significantly impacted her quality of life.
The legal notice details the severe challenges posed by deep potholes, broken pavements, and uneven surfaces, which have not only caused his physical ailments but have also led to considerable emotional distress. Dr. Kiran’s case underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure and accountability from local authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
As this situation unfolds, it raises important questions about the responsibilities of municipal corporations in maintaining public amenities and the potential consequences of neglecting these duties.
TheBengaluruLive has reached out to BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao for his comments. We will update the story as soon as we receive a response from him.
