Bengaluru: Hemmigepura recorded 49 mm of rainfall and JP Nagar 40 mm in the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s latest ward-wise update, as evening rain prompted drain-clearing operations on major roads and complaints about fallen trees and overflowing drains.

The GBA Integrated Command and Control Centre’s report issued at 9 pm on October 15 placed Hemmigepura at the top of its rainfall list. JP Nagar, Sarakki, Shakambari Nagar and Jaraganahalli each recorded 40 mm, followed by 38 mm at Banashankari Temple, Kumaraswamy Layout, Padmanabha Nagar and Yelchenahalli.

Bengaluru Central City Corporation teams were meanwhile clearing plastic and other waste from roadside drains at Town Hall, MG Road, Ashoka Pillar and other locations to help accumulated rainwater flow away.

A separate GBA complaint register for the hour between 8 pm and 9 pm listed seven grievances involving fallen trees, roadside drains, water flowing onto roads and a request for tree-branch trimming.

Crews Clear Drains at Town Hall, MG Road and Shantinagar

Bengaluru Central City Corporation said personnel attached to its division-level control rooms were working at locations where water had accumulated following the evening rain.

The teams removed plastic and other waste from roadside shoulder drains to restore the flow of rainwater. The corporation identified the road in front of Town Hall, Ashoka Pillar, Acharya Layout, MG Road, several locations in Shantinagar and Commissariat Road among the places where this work was undertaken.

Commissioner G. Jagadeesh directed officials to respond promptly to rain-related problems and take immediate steps to resolve them.

The corporation’s update described drain-clearing work under way at affected locations; it did not confirm that waterlogging had been fully resolved at every site.

Fallen Trees and Overflowing Drains Feature in One-Hour Complaint Register

The GBA’s rainfall-related complaint sheet for 8 pm to 9 pm recorded three requests concerning fallen-tree removal, three drainage-related grievances and one request for tree-branch trimming.

A fallen tree was reported near Hegganahalli Cross and Veeranjaneya Temple Road in Sanjeevini Nagar, under the Rajagopala Nagara ward entry in West City Corporation. Another request concerned the removal of a fallen tree near 5th A Main in Hombegowda Nagara, under Central City Corporation.

A third tree-removal complaint concerned a tree on the road at 3rd Cross, 4th Main, MD Block in Malleshwaram, under West City Corporation.

The drainage complaints included Arcot Srinivasachar Street in Mamulpet, Chickpet, where a roadside-drain grievance was registered under Central City Corporation.

In North City Corporation, water flowing onto the road was reported at 6th Main, Manorayanapalya, under the Bhoopasandra ward entry. Another complaint concerned overflowing roadside drains at Kalidasa Layout, Katigenahalli, near Bagalur Main Road, under the Kogilu ward entry.

The seventh grievance sought tree-branch trimming near Ayyappa Swamy Temple Road in Kathriguppe, recorded under West City Corporation.

All seven entries were marked “REGISTERED” in the report, rather than shown as resolved. The figures cover that one-hour reporting window and should not be treated as the total number of rain-related incidents across Bengaluru for the entire day.

Rainfall Varies Sharply Across Neighbourhoods

The ward-wise report showed substantial differences across Bengaluru. While Hemmigepura recorded 49 mm, Shantala Nagar and Shanthi Nagar each recorded 37.75 mm. Thanisandra and Byatarayanapura were listed at 36.5 mm each, Basavanagudi at 36 mm, Sudham Nagar and Vishveshwara Puram at 34 mm each, and Gottigere at 33 mm. Jakkuru recorded 30.5 mm.

Elsewhere, Marathahalli was listed at 9.5 mm, HSR Layout at 7.5 mm and Koramangala at 6.5 mm. Bellandur recorded 2.5 mm, Yelahanka Satellite Town 2 mm and Vidyaranyapura 1 mm. The readings underline why a single station figure does not describe rainfall uniformly across the city.

The GBA report uses ward names from the earlier 198-ward framework. Its 9 pm timestamp identifies the report’s reporting time; the document does not specify the starting time of the rainfall accumulation period. These ward readings therefore need to be kept separate from the station observations with explicitly stated measurement windows.

Bengaluru City Station Records 31.6 mm in 12 Hours

The separate rainfall observations supplied for the period from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm on October 15 recorded 31.6 mm at Bengaluru City station and 5.8 mm at Bengaluru HAL.

Both stations reported cumulonimbus cloud activity and thunderstorms with rain. These are 12-hour cumulative rainfall measurements, not measurements of the evening spell alone.

Kempegowda International Airport recorded 0.8 mm in the earlier observation window from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, with cumulonimbus clouds and lightning also reported.

The GBA ward report separately lists the ward named “HAL Airport” at 19.5 mm. That ward entry is not presented as the same measurement as the Bengaluru HAL station’s 5.8 mm reading, and the two should not be substituted for one another.

Automatic Stations Record 31 mm at ‘BANGALORE’

The Automatic Weather Station and Automatic Rain Gauge observations for 8.30 am to 8.30 pm on October 15 recorded 31 mm at the station listed as “BANGALORE”.

GKVK Bengaluru and KVK Chintamani each recorded 7.5 mm, Hassan 2.5 mm, and Tamaka KVK and Hesaraghatta 0.5 mm each.

The “BANGALORE” automatic-station reading is a separate entry from Bengaluru City station’s 31.6 mm. The readings are not additive.

In the regional observations ending at 5.30 pm, Shakthinagar and Mangaluru Airport in Coastal Karnataka reported cumulonimbus clouds and thunderstorms, but no rainfall quantities were specified for either station. The North Interior Karnataka section was marked “NIL”.
