Bengaluru Police Commissionerate to Be Split Into Five Units, Traffic Coordination to Be Strengthened: D.K. Shivakumar
Bengaluru: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced a major restructuring of Bengaluru’s police administration, with the existing Police Commissionerate to be reorganised into five separate commissionerates and new police stations established wherever required.
Announcing the plan during his Independence Day address at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground, Shivakumar said Bengaluru’s policing system was originally designed for a city with a population of around 10 lakh and needed to be reorganised to meet the requirements of the expanded metropolis.
“By dividing the Commissionerate and establishing new police stations wherever necessary, we have formulated a programme to maintain law and order more effectively,” Shivakumar said.
According to the official speech copy, the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate will be reorganised into five commissionerates, while additional police stations will be established based on requirements.
Shivakumar said the changes were intended to strengthen law-and-order management as well as improve the city’s response to traffic congestion.
He said coordination between the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the traffic police system would be strengthened as part of efforts to address Bengaluru’s traffic problems.
“To resolve Bengaluru’s traffic problem, we have ensured that the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the traffic police system work together with excellent coordination,” he said.
