Bengaluru: The Bengaluru City Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for illegally selling Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets in black during matches held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The arrest was made following a tip-off received by officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) Special Enquiry Wing during the April 15 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), regarding tickets being sold at inflated prices. Acting swiftly, the police interrogated Chandrashekar P, a Bengaluru resident and an employee of Sri Lakshmi Caterers operating within the stadium premises. He was found to be involved in the illegal resale of match tickets.

During the investigation, it was revealed that for the April 15 match, 50 tickets were procured under the name of Swastik Heavy Engineering and Industrial Automation Consultant Company and another 50 tickets under Dharani Computers. These tickets were subsequently sold to the public at higher prices in the black market.

Further probe uncovered that for the March 28 match between RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as many as 81 tickets worth ₹6.6 lakh were purchased under the name of Swastik Heavy Engineering and later resold at inflated rates.

Police officials stated that during the ongoing IPL 2026 season, a total of 181 tickets worth ₹17.52 lakh were purchased through TicketGenie and illegally sold by the accused.

Chandrashekar has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved in the ticket black marketing racket.
