Bengaluru: Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar has directed officials to expedite the construction of a new 60-foot-wide RMP road near Jakkur Lake, while calling for a revised alignment to address on-ground challenges.

During a site inspection at the Jakkur Lake bund area, the Commissioner reviewed the progress of the proposed road project and issued key instructions to streamline execution. The planned road, measuring 18 meters (60 feet) in width and stretching approximately 3,365 meters, is expected to connect Kogilu Road via Sampigehalli, Jakkur, and Gasti Kempanahalli to the railway parallel road near the lake bund.

Officials informed that a Form-1 notification for land acquisition had already been issued under RMP–2015 provisions. However, due to the presence of several residential structures along the original alignment, a revision has become necessary to avoid displacement and ensure smoother implementation.

The Commissioner instructed the Chief Engineer to obtain a revised alignment map and complete documentation from B-SMILE engineers and submit it to the competent authority for approval. As per the revised plan, the new RMP road will be constructed adjacent to the existing 15-meter-wide road along the buffer zone boundary of Jakkur Lake.

Authorities noted that several landowners have expressed willingness to part with land under the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) model, which will be used as compensation for land acquisition.

Project Details:
An allocation of ₹5 crore has been made for the project in the 2024–25 budget, and work orders have already been issued through B-SMILE. Initial works have begun in stretches where landowners have consented to the revised alignment, including the construction of a bridge across a storm water drain.

The remaining stretches will be taken up after securing approval for the revised alignment and completing land acquisition through TDR.

Once completed, the new 60-feet-wide road is expected to significantly improve connectivity in North Bengaluru and ease traffic congestion in surrounding areas.

Joint Commissioner Mohammed Nayeem Momin, Chief Engineer Raghavendra Prasad, Superintending Engineer Prakash, Executive Engineer Sachin, B-SMILE Engineer Prakash, and other officials were present during the inspection.
