Monsoon withdrawal advances
The centre said the southwest monsoon had withdrawn from some more parts of Karnataka on October 12, with its withdrawal line passing through Honavar. Conditions were becoming favourable for its withdrawal from the remaining parts of the country and the simultaneous commencement of northeast monsoon rains over the southern peninsula during the next two to three days.
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13 under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood, the bulletin said.
Observations recorded at 8.30 am showed a weak southwest monsoon over Karnataka, rainfall at one or two places in the southern interior, and dry weather over the coast and northern interior. Hosahalli in Vijayanagara district recorded 2 cm of rain.
