Bengaluru: Karnataka Assembly Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka has demanded an inquiry into the security provided to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar during the October 12 protest in Delhi, accusing the Congress leadership of treating him disrespectfully.
In posts on October 13, Ashoka criticised the Congress high command and alleged that adequate security had not been arranged for Shivakumar despite the expectation of a large turnout at the demonstration.

Demand for inquiry and accountability
Ashoka alleged that Rahul Gandhi had ensured his own security while ignoring the Chief Minister. He described the treatment of Shivakumar as an affront to the dignity of Karnataka and the constitutional office he holds.
Questioning Home Minister Priyank Kharge over the arrangements, Ashoka said security personnel were responsible for ensuring that the Chief Minister did not face difficulty wherever he travelled. He demanded an investigation and disciplinary action against officials found responsible for security failures, and asked the Home Minister to take responsibility and apologise to the people.
In a separate English post, Ashoka questioned why Rahul Gandhi repeatedly disrespected Kannadigas and said Karnataka’s pride and dignity were non-negotiable. These were Ashoka’s allegations and interpretation of the incident.
Shivakumar’s explanation
Shivakumar has offered a different account. In his statement, he said Rahul Gandhi advised him to return to his vehicle out of concern for his safety and that a short video could not convey the full context. He described their relationship as one rooted in trust, affection and family.
“A 10-second video cannot tell the whole story,” Shivakumar said, urging attention to remain on the campaign over voting rights.
