Karnataka logs dreadful single-day record of 299 cases

Of the 299 infected persons, an eye-popping 253 are Maharashtra returnees, according to the health department bulletin.

Following Sunday’s huge ‘contribution’,  the total number of infected cases in Karnataka has gone up to 3,221,  of which 1,950 are active and are being treated in designated hospitals.

On the fatalities front, one patient in Bidar and another in Raichur, both men, succumbed to the dreaded coronavirus on Sunday,  taking the state’s death toll to 51.

Bidar man dies at home

Of the Raichur victim, the bulletin said: “P-2597, 50 years, male patient, resident of Raichur district, returnee from Maharashtra on 21.05.2020, was quarantined the same day. Diagnosed with SARI, severe pneumonia, sepsis and respiratory failure. He was admitted on 28.05.2020 and died on 29.05.2020 at the designated hospital, Raichur.”

Of the Bidar victim, it said: “P-2965, 75 years, male patient, resident of containment zone in Bidar district, with symptoms of fever and breathlessness, and known case of hypertension. He was admitted on 18.05.2020 to a private hospital. Died on 29.05.2020 at his residence.”
