‘Sunday Curfew’ largely successful in Karnataka

The first all-day ‘Sunday curfew’ of Lockdown 4.0 imposed by the Karnataka government to keep a check on the coronavirus was largely successful, with people mostly adhering to the rules, and traffic-free roads..
The police had barricaded key thoroughfares across the state, and people ventured out only to purchase groceries and medicines. Temples, malls, bars and restaurants remained shut, and buses, autos and cabs stayed off the roads.
However, instances of curfew violations were reported from the Covid-19 hotspots of Shivajinagar and Rayapura in Bengaluru and Nelamangala and Devanahalli.
In Bengaluru, the bustling Majestic area, which houses city and inter-city bus stands as well as the city railway stations, was largely deserted.
Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kolar, Mangaluru, Udupi and other towns adhered scrupulously to their lockdown obligations.
Marriages that had been given the green signal were conducted in a simple fashion in various parts of the state. Only the stipulated number of invitees attended, and precautions like wearing of masks and social distancing were observed.
