Govt fills coffers from illegal structures

A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday decided to legalise such structures by collecting fines.  In this connection the relevant section of the BDA Act has been amended.

This exemption  will be available only to those who have built houses 12 years ago. Those who built a house on a 20×30 site have to pay a penalty of 10 per cent of the market value. Those who built a house on a 30×40 site have to pay 20 per cent of the market value. Those who built 40×50 and 50×80 residences will have to pay 40 per cent of the market value.

Structures on sites above 50×80  will not be legalised. The exemption  will not be applicable to those who have vacant premises and newly built houses. It is estimated that the amended law will benefit an estimated 50,000 owners.
