Says cruel methods are punishable under law

Following reports that a poultry farmer buried nearly 16,000 birds alive because of the drastic reduction in meat consumption caused by corona virus fears, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India fired off a letter to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying of Karnataka, asking it to issue directions immediately to stop the use of cruel and illegal methods of killing unwanted birds.
PETA has called for the use of methods for the mass killing of animals recommended by the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOIE).
PETA says methods such as burying birds alive are violations of Sections 3 and 11 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, and Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code, and are punishable by imprisonment of up to five years, a fine, or both.
