Naval officer’s son fell from window next to staircase of Begur apartment; cops yet to determine cause of death

BENGALURU:

In a tragic case, the teenaged son of a naval officer fell to his death from the fourth floor of their apartment building on Begur-Koppa Road late on Tuesday night.

Sixteen-year-old Suryakanth was one of two children of Indian Navy officer Selviraj and his wife Manisha, residents of SNN Apartment. According to the preliminary findings of the Begur police, the boy fell from a window next to the staircase around 9.50 pm. It is not yet clear whether he fell accidentally.

‘Parents clueless’

Selviraj, who hails from Kerala, has been staying with his wife and two children in the building for the last eight years. Suryakanth was a 1st year PUC student in a private college and was considered a bright student. The parents told the police that they were in their flat when he went out near the staircase, but had no clue as to how he fell down.

The Begur police said they learnt of the incident from apartment residents who heard a huge sound and found the boy lying in a pool of blood. According to Suryakanth’s relatives and apartment residents, he was a soft-natured and bright boy.

A senior cop said they were yet to question the parents in detail as the latter were in a state of shock. He added that the exact cause of death would be known after a detailed probe.

Following a post-mortem, the boy’s body was handed over to the parents. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Begur police station.
