International Cricket Stadium in Bengaluru Will Be Congress Government’s Major Gift to the City: D.K. Shivakumar
Bengaluru, May 23: Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said the Congress government is giving Bengaluru a major development boost through the construction of an international-standard cricket stadium and sports complex at Suryanagar.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the international cricket stadium and other development projects at the KHB Surya Sports Village in Suryanagar, Shivakumar said the project would transform the region and strengthen Bengaluru’s sporting infrastructure.
‘Dream Project of D.K. Suresh and MLA Shivanna’
The Deputy Chief Minister said the stadium project was a dream envisioned by former MP D.K. Suresh and Anekal MLA Shivanna for the development of the region.
Referring to a village saying, Shivakumar remarked: “No land yields results without cultivation. Similarly, leaders must work with commitment to repay the people’s trust.”
He said the Siddaramaiah-led government has now turned that vision into reality through the stadium project.
₹2,000 Crore International Sports Complex
Shivakumar announced that an international sports complex worth nearly ₹2,000 crore is being developed in Anekal.
He said the government is also fulfilling another long-pending demand by providing Cauvery water supply facilities to the region.
“Where there is a road, we should walk on it. If there is no road, we should create one and move forward,” he said.
‘Vision and Dreams Are Essential’
The Deputy Chief Minister said development requires vision and determination.
“One can walk even in darkness, but cannot move forward without dreams,” he remarked.
He praised MLA Shivanna for continuously working for the development of Anekal constituency and bringing together people from all communities and backgrounds.
Shivakumar recalled that Shivanna had been active in student politics during his NSUI days and stated that he has consistently worked for public welfare.
‘Revolutionary Changes in Housing Sector’
The Deputy CM said the Housing Department and Karnataka Housing Board (KHB), under the leadership of Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and KHB Chairman Shivalingegowda, are bringing revolutionary changes in housing and infrastructure development.
He stated that the Congress government has effectively introduced “land guarantee” as a sixth guarantee by providing:
- housing for the homeless
- ownership documents for people without property records
‘This Stadium Will Become a Permanent Landmark’
Shivakumar described the proposed stadium as a permanent symbol of Bengaluru’s future growth.
He said the stadium would stand as a lasting landmark and contribute to sports, tourism and economic development in the region for generations.
The Deputy Chief Minister also thanked:
- farmers who gave land for the project
- government officials
- legislators and former MPs
for their contribution towards making the project a reality.
