Bengaluru, May 23: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday laid the foundation stone for an international-standard cricket stadium at Suryanagar, stating that the project would accelerate sports development, tourism, employment generation and economic growth in the region.

The event was organised jointly by the Housing Department and the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) at Suryagrama.

Along with the stadium project, the Chief Minister also inaugurated:

  • the launch of the Chief Minister’s “Namma Mane” housing scheme
  • foundation stone laying for Surya Shine and Surya Divine residential complexes
  • symbolic distribution of sites to landowners who provided land for the housing project

‘Major Step Towards Integrated Development’

Addressing the gathering, Siddaramaiah said the government has taken a major step towards integrated development of the region through investments in sports, housing, infrastructure and tourism.

He noted that the Housing Department and KHB, which traditionally focused only on housing construction, have now expanded into building a world-class stadium with an estimated seating capacity of 80,000.

The Chief Minister praised Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and KHB Chairman and MLA Shivalingegowda for their vision behind the project.

Karnataka to Get Second Largest Stadium

Siddaramaiah said the proposed stadium would become Karnataka’s second-largest stadium after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat, which has a seating capacity of around 90,000.

He stated that the stadium project would:

  • boost tourism
  • strengthen the local economy
  • generate employment opportunities
  • accelerate infrastructure growth in surrounding areas

The CM also mentioned that the project would be developed entirely using KHB funds without financial assistance from the state government.

KHB Expects ₹20,000 Crore Revenue

The Chief Minister said KHB expects to generate nearly ₹20,000 crore revenue through the sale of vacant residential sites.

He added that KHB is working towards providing affordable sites and housing for poor and middle-class families at a time when land prices are rapidly increasing.

Roads and Housing Development Projects Announced

To support development in the region, Siddaramaiah announced that administrative approval has also been granted for construction of key connecting roads in Jigani Hobli.

He said the Housing Department has already distributed more than:

  • 3 lakh houses and residential sites

across Karnataka under various housing schemes.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, KHB Chairman and MLA Shivalingegowda, Anekal MLA Shivanna, senior leaders T.B. Jayachandra, Krishnappa, former MP D.K. Suresh, Slum Development Board Chairman and MLA Abbayya, MLC Ramoji Gowda and several other dignitaries attended the event.
