Bengaluru, May 23: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday laid the foundation stone for an international-standard cricket stadium at Suryanagar, stating that the project would accelerate sports development, tourism, employment generation and economic growth in the region.

‘Major Step Towards Integrated Development’
Addressing the gathering, Siddaramaiah said the government has taken a major step towards integrated development of the region through investments in sports, housing, infrastructure and tourism.
He noted that the Housing Department and KHB, which traditionally focused only on housing construction, have now expanded into building a world-class stadium with an estimated seating capacity of 80,000.
The Chief Minister praised Housing Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan and KHB Chairman and MLA Shivalingegowda for their vision behind the project.
Karnataka to Get Second Largest Stadium

He stated that the stadium project would:

- strengthen the local economy
- generate employment opportunities
- accelerate infrastructure growth in surrounding areas
The CM also mentioned that the project would be developed entirely using KHB funds without financial assistance from the state government.

He added that KHB is working towards providing affordable sites and housing for poor and middle-class families at a time when land prices are rapidly increasing.

To support development in the region, Siddaramaiah announced that administrative approval has also been granted for construction of key connecting roads in Jigani Hobli.
