CRS Conducts Inspection and Speed Trial on New Railway Lines Between Baiyyappanahalli and Bengaluru Cantonment
Bengaluru: In a significant boost to the city’s railway infrastructure, the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Northeast Frontier Circle, Kolkata, Shri Sumeet Singhal, conducted a statutory inspection and speed trial on the newly laid 3rd and 4th railway lines between Baiyyappanahalli West Cabin (BYPW) and Bengaluru Cantonment (BNC), covering a stretch of 4.928 km. The inspection, which also included Bengaluru East Halt station, was carried out on March 31 and April 1, 2026.
The newly developed lines are part of the larger Bengaluru Cantonment–Whitefield Quadrupling Project, aimed at addressing the growing demand for both passenger and freight traffic while significantly easing congestion across the Bengaluru rail network.

The Baiyyappanahalli West Cabin to Bengaluru Cantonment section is equipped with robust infrastructure, including 4 major bridges (all Road Under Bridges), 3 minor bridges (Nos. 836, 838 & 841), 3 Road Over Bridges (ROBs), 7 Road Under Bridges (RUBs), and 3 Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), ensuring improved connectivity and safety.
Senior railway officials were present during the inspection, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction)/RSP, South Western Railway, Shri B. Rama Mohana Reddy; Divisional Railway Manager Shri Ashutosh Kumar Singh; Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shri Praveen Kataraki; and Chief Project Manager of the Gati Shakti Unit, Shri Gul Ashfaque Mohammad.
The completion of this section marks a crucial step in strengthening Bengaluru’s rail infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting the city’s growing transportation needs.
