Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s public praise for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on social media marking his six years as KPCC president carries a clear political message about Congress unity and the party’s long-term electoral strategy in Karnataka.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Siddaramaiah congratulated Shivakumar for completing six successful years as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president and described him as a leader known for organizational ability, ideological commitment and relentless hard work. He also said Shivakumar’s resilience in facing “false cases and harassment” from the BJP without wavering in his loyalty to the Congress had become an inspiration for lakhs of party workers.
Political Significance
Political observers see the message as an important signal within the Congress leadership structure in Karnataka, where both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar are considered the two most influential power centres. By publicly acknowledging Shivakumar’s contribution and describing him as having a “bright political future,” Siddaramaiah appears to be reinforcing the narrative of leadership harmony within the ruling Congress government.
The Chief Minister also underlined that Shivakumar had worked day and night alongside party leaders and workers to defeat “communal forces” and bring the Congress to power in Karnataka. He further stated that Shivakumar had stood “shoulder to shoulder” with him in rebuilding the state as a “garden of peace for all communities.”

Focus on 2028 Elections
Perhaps the most politically significant line in the post was Siddaramaiah’s reference to the 2028 Assembly elections, stating that bringing the Congress back to power in the next election is the collective goal of the party leadership and workers.
By adding that he would personally participate in the organizational strengthening and political struggles leading up to 2028, Siddaramaiah’s message is widely being interpreted as a strategic attempt to project stability within the Congress leadership and maintain unity ahead of future electoral battles.
The post has triggered political discussion in Karnataka, with analysts viewing it as both a message to party cadres about unity and a signal to political rivals that the Congress leadership remains aligned despite internal power equations.
