Bengaluru: Concerns are growing within the hotel industry in Bengaluru after reports of disruptions in the supply of commercial LPG cylinders, with the Bengaluru Hotel Association warning that restaurants and eateries may be forced to shut operations if the issue is not resolved immediately.
According to Hotel Association President P.C. Rao, the industry has been facing an unexpected halt in commercial gas cylinder supply, which is critical for daily hotel operations. The situation has triggered fears that many hotels may be unable to serve food from Tuesday (March 10) due to the lack of cooking gas, affecting thousands of workers and customers who depend on the sector.
Rao said that although the central government had earlier assured that the country has sufficient LPG stock for about 70 days, hotel owners claim that supply to commercial establishments has suddenly stopped, leaving them with no alternative fuel to run their kitchens.
โWe have already communicated the issue to Union Ministers and also informed Members of Parliament from Bengaluru,โ Rao said, adding that hotel owners do not wish to shut their businesses, but the lack of gas supply could make closures unavoidable.
Industry representatives warned that if commercial gas supply is not restored immediately, many hotels across Bengaluru may remain closed temporarily, disrupting food services across the city.
Officials are yet to clarify whether the reported gas supply disruption is linked to global tensions or logistical issues, but hotel owners are urging authorities to intervene quickly to avoid a major disruption in Bengaluruโs food service sector.
