Bengaluru, February 20: A day after the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) filed a police complaint over viral social media claims describing certain Nandini products as “toxic,” the doctor who made the statements has publicly responded, saying she is neither shocked nor afraid of legal action.

The complaint, filed earlier this week, alleged that the viral reel contained misleading and unverified claims regarding the safety of select Nandini dairy products. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Investigation is currently underway.

In a video statement released following media reports of the complaint, Dr Sharanya said she had anticipated possible consequences while raising concerns about food and health practices.

“I am not shocked. When you question large institutions, such responses can be expected,” she said, adding that she had received a call from Malleswaram Police Station informing her about the complaint.

Defending her position, the doctor stated that her campaign is focused on children’s health and preventive care. She reiterated concerns about excessive consumption of processed foods and frequent use of certain medications in children, arguing that nutrition and immunity should be prioritized.

“I am fighting for children’s health. Even if an FIR is filed, I will not back down,” she said.

Meanwhile, KMF has maintained that its products comply fully with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms and all statutory quality regulations. The federation has termed the allegations baseless and damaging to consumer trust.

With both sides standing firm, the issue has now moved into the legal domain. Police officials confirmed that further investigation will determine the course of action.

The controversy continues to generate debate on social media, centering on food safety, public health awareness, and the responsibility associated with digital content.
