22 students bag cent per cent marks in SSLC exams, State registers 62.34 pass percentage

BENGALURU: Twenty two students from the state have scored cent per cent marks (625/625) in the recently held Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSCL) examinations, the results of which were announced on Friday. Last year, only two students had scored full marks.

The state registered 62.34 pass percentage with 5,24,984 students clearing the exams. This is an 8 per cent increase over last year. Of them 2,26,637 (58.07 per cent) were boys and 2,96,438 (74 per cent). Yet again, the girls have outshone the boys.

Dhanalakshmi N, one of the toppers from St Yash Public School at Kempegowda Nagar in Byadarahalli on Magadi Main Road said, “I am very happy as I expected full marks. Our school authorities helped a lot by conducting tests. I want to pursue Chartered Accountancy in future”.

Dhanalakshmi’s parents, who run a paan-beeda stall, were very emotional on her achievement. “She worked very hard and brought honour to the family”, they said.

Yukta of Holy Child English Convent in Banashankari topped the state in the SSLC results. Her parents and teachers celebrated her achievement by distributing sweets. Namitha of Matha National English High School in Kalyan Nagar, was also among the toppers.

Mithun of Holy Child English Convent in Banashankari, who missed the top honour by just one mark, said he aims to become a politician. “I like politics and I am impressed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. I want to become like him”, he said, much to the surprise of his teachers.

Among the districts, Dakshina Kannada topped with 91.12 pass percentage followed by Udupi at 89.96 per cent and Uttara Kannada at 83.19 per cent. Kalaburagi was at the bottom of the table with a pass percentage of 42.41.

Rural students outdid their urban counterparts with 2,24,900 (67.05 per cent) passing the exam as against 2,98,175 (65.47 per cent) in cities. Among the schools which recorded 100 per cent results include 329 government schools, 53 aided adn 539 private schools. School with recorded nil results include six government schools, 30 aided and 108 private schools.

A total of 9,573 students scored cent per cent marks in first language, 7,057 in second language, 17,909 in third language, 3,262 in mathematics, 2,451 in science and 7,974 students in social science.

Minister Madhu Bangarappa gave roses to the toppers.

Speaking while announcing the results Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said that last year, the pass percentage had dropped to 53 per cent as webcasting was introduced. Therefore, grace marks were given to raise the pass percentage to 73 per cent.

“The CM too had expressed displeasure about it and had directed us to ensure higher pass percentage this year. In line with his directive, we conducted special classes to train students and appointed teachers in vacant posts”, Madhu Bangarappa said.

Further, he said special drives will be conducted to increase attendance in government schools. “The CM will also take part in special programmes”, he added. The minister also said the last date to apply for scanned copies of answer sheets is May 7 and fees will have to be paid by May 8. The last date to apply for revaluation of answer scripts is May 11.

The SSCL exam-2 will be held between May 26 and June 2 while exam-3 will be held from June 23 to June 30. Students will not have to pay any fee for taking up these exams, the minister said.
