Besides, as per the order of the state government, the minister of the concerned department who has tabled the bill in the house (in this case the CM himself as he holds the Bengaluru development portfolio) or any other minister appointed by him, as well as the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister,  will be members of the committee which is o take a call on the BBMP bill and place its recommendations before the assembly.

Further,  the committee’s chairman will be selected consensually by all 20 members.

Thebengalurulive was the first to report the issue on March 26 under the title ‘New bill, a ruse for MLAs’ rule over city?'(read here: https://thebengalurulive.com/new-bill-a-ruse-for-mlas-rule-over-city/) in which we had highlighted that the ‘Civic chief’s, corporators’ wings will be clipped’ once the bill is passed in the state assembly.

As per the bill placed in the house, apart from extending the terms of mayor and deputy mayor to five years, they have no commensurate powers to rectify any administrative irregularities.
