BENGALURU:
To overcome the shortage of beds and medical equipment, the Karnataka government has requisitioned 11 private medical colleges in Bengaluru city as Covid Care Centres for positive cases.
They are: Akash Medical College in Devanahalli, BGS Global Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr B R Medical College, East Point Medical College, Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences, M S Ramaiah Medical College, MVJ Medical College, Sapthagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, St John’s Medical College, The Oxford Medical College and Research Institute, and Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre.
Bengaluru city (BBMP and surrounding areas), the economic hub of the state. has seen a large number of travellers and returnees and a consequent spike in infections. The surrounding districts also depend on Bengaluru for medical facilities. There are three kinds of Covid-related facilities: Covid Care Centres (CCC) for asymptomatic cases, Dedicated Covid Health Centres (DCHC) for mild to moderate symptomatic cases, and Dedicated Covid Hospitals (DCH) for serious cases.
On Thursday, Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar tweeted: “We are adding capacity to treat Covid patients. 11 Pvt Med Colleges will function as COVID19 treatment facilities with 2,200 reserved beds. Of these, 281 are ICU beds and 120 are beds with a ventilator. Each medical college will have a testing lab and at least 2 fever clinics.”
