BENGALURU:
There was some unusual ‘action’ aboard the KSR Bengaluru- New Delhi Special Express when a woman passenger gave birth around 5.30 am on Sunday.
Her husband, Sandeep, a construction worker in Bengaluru, said they boarded the train on Friday and his wife went into labour on Saturday evening. Other women passengers, including a doctor, assisted with the delivery.
The couple were on their way to their native village of Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh. Sandeep said his fellow passengers informed DCP (Whitefield division) M N Anucheth and IFS officer Dipika Bajpai, who are overseeing migrant-related issues in Bengaluru. The duo in turn alerted their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh.
The couple alighted at Lucknow, after which the woman and her newborn were taken to a hospital. “The doctors did a medical check and gave some medicines. We then continued with our journey in a government bus to our home town Balrampur,” Sandeep said.
Travelling Ticket Examiners S Ravi, Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Pankaj Jha, who were on the train, were of assistance to the couple.
