At meeting with Karnataka Deputy Commissioners, Bommai calls for monthly feedback on welfare measures
BENGALURU:
‘Be the change you seek’ was the essence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s pep talk to Karnataka’s Deputy Commissioners at a conference of district chiefs at Vidhana Soudha here on Friday.
“Promptly implement the government’s bold decisions taken to make the administration more responsive to people’s plight, work proactively in the districts to give good administration, and instead of just thinking about change, take the lead to bring the change yourself,” the Chief Minister said.
Pat for DCs
The government has proved to be alive and responsive by reaching out to the people to redress their grievances. Crop compensation has been paid within 48 hours of uploading the report on the Parihara App. Relief has reached 83% of affected farmers due to the efficiency of Deputy Commissioners, Bommai said, appreciating their performance.
The CM exhorted the DCs to work with a team spirit and face challenges unitedly to make district administration ‘dynamic’.

He instructed them to ensure speedy disposal of land disputes and cases which are pending for more than 5 years at the level of Tahsildars and Assistant Commissioners, adding that the government was ready to recruit additional Tahsildars and Assistant Commissioners for the purpose.
‘Govt will back good work’
Bommai stressed the need to make the administration more responsive so as to take welfare programmes to people’s doorstep. He wanted monthly reports on the progress of projects and programmes at the district level. Good performance by the district administration would boost the image of the government. “Leave your footprints in the district with your good work. The government will back your good work,” he said.
Pointing to the fact that DCs enjoy great discretionary powers, the Chief Minister asked them to use it with discretion and responsibility for the welfare of the poor.
Clear encroachments: Ashoka
Revenue Minister R Ashoka, who also addressed the conference, said a periodic review of development works should be held compulsorily. DCs should reserve at least one day in a month for encroachment clearance drives.
A programme to take government services, including certificates and documents, to people’s doorstep in rural areas is being launched on January 26, and DCs should make the programme a grand success, Ashoka said.
