Varamahalakshmi Festival Celebrated Across Bengaluru; Temples, Homes Decked Up for Special Worship
Bengaluru: Varamahalakshmi festival was celebrated with religious fervour across Bengaluru, with homes and temples decorated with flowers, fruits and traditional festoons as devotees offered special prayers to Goddess Lakshmi.
Special pujas and rituals were held at temples across the city, while families performed Varamahalakshmi worship at their homes. Elaborate decorations were arranged using flowers, fruits and other traditional offerings.
At the Mahalakshmi temple in the Sheshadripuram-Kumara Park area, the premises were decorated with colourful flowers and festoons. Special abhisheka was performed to the deity with milk, curd, ghee, honey, tender coconut water and different fruits.
The deity was also adorned with a gold crown weighing about 1.5 kg and special prayers were offered as devotees visited the temple for darshan.
Celebrations were also held in households across Bengaluru, where families decorated the deity and performed prayers. Children were also included in the traditional rituals, with families offering aarti as part of the festivities.
Festival-related shopping brought heavy crowds to KR Market, where people turned up to purchase flowers, fruits and other items required for the celebrations.
The rush also resulted in traffic pressure around the market. Particular attention was paid to the road connecting KR Market with Town Hall to prevent congestion from affecting vehicular movement.
Police personnel were deployed from the morning to ensure traders did not occupy portions of the road in a manner that obstructed traffic. The measures followed congestion reported the previous day, when roadside trading had affected movement and several ambulances were reportedly caught in traffic.
Police took steps to keep the carriageway clear and maintain uninterrupted vehicular movement amid the festival rush.
