US envoy’s Kannada tweet is music to Kannadiga ears!
In virtual talks, Consul General Judith Ravin congratulates CM for Karnataka’s top start-up ranking
BENGALURU:
The US Consul General in Chennai has won the hearts of Kannadigas with a tweet in Kannada, following virtual talks with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday.
Coincidentally, Consul General Judith Ravin’s tweet comes at a time when several Kannada actors and activists have been running an online campaign against #HindiImposition and #HindiGottila.
‘US consulate, please!’
During the virtual meeting on Wednesday, the CM said, “Our long-pending demand is for a US consulate in Bengaluru. We will give all the necessary co-operation to establish the office.”
Of the 100 American companies in India, 90 companies, including Cisco, IBM, Intel, GE, HP, Oracle and UTC, are based in Bengaluru, the CM said. “Karnataka is a capital-friendly state and we welcome more investment from the US,” he said.

Consul-General Judith Ravin congratulated the CM for Karnataka’s top position in the Centre’s start-up ranking of states. They also discussed collaboration in space technology, Covid-related research, expansion of economic ties and student exchange programmes.
Later, in a Kannada tweet, Ravin said, “Thanks CM of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa. In this dialogue, we discussed a number of issues, including collaboration in space technology, the US-India trade relationship, and health services related to Covid.”

The CM’s official Twitter handle said, “US Consul General Judith Ravin today attended a virtual meeting with the Chief Minister.”
Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar, the CM’s additional chief secretary EV Ramana Reddy, the CM’s advisor M Lakshminarayan, and Commerce and Industry Department Principal Secretary Gaurav Gupta, who is also the BBMP administrator, were present at the virtual talks.
