Revenue Minister Ashoka puts Commercial Street repairs onus on contractor
BENGALURU:
Following citizens’ complaints regarding the quality of work on the refurbished Commercial Street, Revenue Minister R Ashoka did a spot inspection of the road, which is being developed under the Smart City project, on Friday.
Speaking to the media later, he said that as the colour of the pavement tiles had faded, officials have been instructed to making the contractor replace the tiles at his own expense by September.
He said the redevelopment of the 450-metre stretch had been done at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore. Apart from replacing the tiles, the crossroads adjacent to Commercial Street would also be redeveloped, he said.
The contractor concerned would have to maintain the road for the next three years. Measures would be taken to ensure that rainwater does not flow into shops but into the drainage, the Minister said.
Storm water drain
The Minister inspected the storm water drain in front of the Gurudwara Junction near Ulsoor Lake. He asked the officials to ensure that the water flows smoothly during the rainy season. The Minister also instructed the authorities to clear the silt in the drain from time to time.
MP PC Mohan, MLA Rizwan Arshad, BBMP Administrator Rakesh Singh, Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta, East Zone Commissioner Manoj Jain, Smart City Managing Director Rajendra Cholan, East Zone Joint Commissioner Pallavi, Zonal Chief Engineer Prabhakar, Smart City Chief Engineer Prahallad and other officials were present.
