Three dead, at least 15 injured in cylinder blast at godown in Bommanahalli

BENGALURU: Three people died while trying to extinguish a fire and more than 15 people were injured in a cylinder blast at a cotton godown at Bommanahalli on Sunday. Of the injured, many are battling for their lives after suffering burn injuries.

The fire engulfed the building, and many commodities were gutted in the fire. The warehouse is located near Bhanu Nursing Home in Bommanahalli. Many people, including those from nearby shops, hotels and a hair salon were injured while trying to put out the fire.

The blast injured 15-20 people, and three people lost their lives. The deceased include Irfan, who worked at a medical shop, and Vijay Kumar, a plumber. Others including Tausif, Lalu, Riaz and Shankar, were seriously injured.

The injured are being treated at Victoria Hospital, Ashwath Hospital, and St John’s Hospital. Relatives of the injured are lamenting that no one has come to their aid since the incident and they are struggling to make ends meet.

The warehouse named Master Bed Shop is owned by Nadeem and Wasim. A case has been registered at the Bommanahalli police station.

Vijay Kumar’s sister Asha said that her brother had gone to get a haircut when the incident occurred. She added that Vijay Kumar’s marriage was fixed, but now it has been put off due to the incident. The family had made preparations for the wedding, but it has been put on hold due to the tragedy.
