Karnataka Police Rescue 800 Children in Statewide Drive Against Child Labour; Bengaluru City Accounts for 503
Bengaluru, September 12: Karnataka Police rescued 800 children after checking 16,951 premises across the state as part of a special drive to unearth child labour, according to a report issued by the DGP Control Room, Bengaluru, on September 12. The drive involved 962 police stations and units across Karnataka.
Bengaluru City recorded by far the highest number of children rescued, with 503 children found during checks at 5,897 premises involving 188 police stations. The report records action against 18 accused in Bengaluru City.
Vijayapura district recorded the second-highest number of rescues, with 72 children rescued after 1,156 premises were checked by 28 police stations. Twenty-five notices were issued and three FIRs were registered, according to the report.
Tumakuru district reported 33 children rescued during checks at 660 premises involving 44 police stations. Notices were issued and the rescued children were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Koppal district recorded 27 children rescued from 95 premises, while Kalaburagi City reported 22 rescues from 427 premises. Chikkaballapura recorded 16 children rescued, Ballari district 15, Mysuru City and Chitradurga district 13 each, and Belagavi district 12.
The report shows that 10 children were rescued in Hubballi-Dharwad City, nine in Bengaluru Rural and eight each in Chamarajanagar, Bagalkote and Bidar districts.
In Bengaluru South district, two children were rescued and two notices were issued, with the children handed over to the CWC. Bengaluru Rural also handed nine rescued children to the CWC.
Kodagu district reported two children rescued and two FIRs registered. In Chitradurga district, where 13 children were rescued, the matter was reported to the Labour Department. Bidar district authorities informed the child labour inspector after rescuing eight children, while two children rescued in Udupi district were handed over to the child labour inspector.
Several other units recorded no children rescued during the drive despite conducting checks, including KGF, Mysuru district, Hassan, Mandya, Davangere, Shivamogga, Karwar, Chikkamagaluru, Gadag, Raichur and Railways.
The statewide figures in the DGP Control Room report put the total at 962 police stations and units, 16,951 premises checked and 800 children rescued.
